  • Martyr's Memorial

The Martyrs' Memorial is a remarkable concrete monument in Algiers dedicated to commemorating the Algerian War. This iconic structure was unveiled in 1982, marking the 20th anniversary of Algeria's hard-fought independence. The memorial is shaped like three towering palm leaves and offers shelter to the "Eternal Flame" beneath its canopy. Each of these palm leaves features a statue of a soldier, symbolizing the different stages of Algeria's journey toward liberation.

  • Kasbah of Algiers

Recognized as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site in 1992, the Kasbah of Algiers boasts the remnants of the citadel –or fortress –, ancient mosques, Ottoman-style palaces, and traditional white and blue houses adorned with wrought-iron balconies. This historic district was founded on the ruins of the old Icosium in the 10th century and was divided into the "High city" and the "Low city." Notable landmarks include the Ketchaoua Mosque, Djamaa al-Djedid, Djamaâ el Kebir, and Ali Bitchin Mosque. Wander through the winding streets and soak in the atmosphere of this enchanting destination.

  • Djamaa al-Djedid Mosque

In the Kasbah of Algiers, you'll find the oldest mosque in the city. It's believed this mosque dates back to 1660, thanks to an inscription at its entrance. This magnificent white structure has a prayer hall with 11 naves, a 24-meter high dome, and 14th-century minarets.

Experience new activities in Algiers

  • Stroll through the Jardin d'Essai

Escape the city's hustle and bustle in this vast 32-hectare botanical garden in the Mohamed Belouizdad district. This garden is now home to the Algerian National Institute of Agronomical Research and has approximately 1,200 plant species within its expansive grounds. After a day of sightseeing, we recommend strolling through the lush greenery and relaxing in the tranquil surroundings.

  • Palace des Rais

Renowned for its remarkable architecture, the Palace des Rais is the only remaining section of the lower Casbah of Algiers. Its origins trace back to 1576 when Dey Ramdhan Pasha built Bordj-Ez-zoubia to bolster the Medina's defenses. However, it wasn't until 1909 that this was recognized as a historical monument. The palace is now a cultural center hosting exhibitions, performances, and art installations. We recommend checking what's on during your stay.

  • Walk along the Waterfront Boulevard

Soak up all the city has to offer with a stroll along the wide promenade by the sea. You can enjoy the sparkling Mediterranean Ocean on one side and a historic backdrop on the other. We recommend heading down there in the early evening to enjoy a lively atmosphere as the sun sets over the water. It's also the perfect place to try Algerian cuisine, as there are countless cafes and restaurants along the seafront.
